What is the Biochar Academy?

IBI’s Biochar Academy is an immersive in-person, multi-day, hands-on workforce developmentcourse designed to equip emerging biochar professionals with the knowledge and tools necessaryto become effective biochar advocates, educators, and practitioners.

This unique experientiallearning program blends expert presentations and demonstrations with hands-on practice toengage participants with contemporary knowledge and real-world biochar production andapplication. By emphasizing peer-learning and networking, the Biochar Academy fosters innovationand strengthens the global community of biochar practitioners through place-based learning athost locations around the world.

What is IBI looking for in a Host Partner?The ideal partner has the following qualities; though, not every partner will possess all of thesequalities.Partner in funding: the ideal partner has funding and/or the capacity to support fundraisingfor the event (e.g., through grant writing, sponsor solicitation, donor outreach, etc.)Teaching Equipment: the ideal partner has biochar production equipment on-site.

Bonus:the site is within close proximity to both artisanal and industrial examples of biocharproductionVenue Capacity: the ideal partner has a venue able to host 50+ people withaccommodation on-site or nearby, and teaching space(s) equipped with learning equipmentsuch as projector and sound system.Staff Support: the ideal partner will provide staff to support event program planning andimplementationBiochar Expertise: the ideal partner has extensive expertise and networks within the BiocharIndustry, and intends to leverage this expertise and networks by assisting IBI in the process ofrecruiting speakers and developing the program agenda.Accessible

Location: Ideally within 1.5 hours drive from an airport.Site Visits: biochar production and/or application sites nearby (within 2 hours)
